We finished Term 1 with Easter, which is not widely celebrated in Japan. We made 5 Easter Bunny finger puppets,
and used them to practice counting in Japanese: 一 二 三 四 五 。ichi, ni, san, shi, go.
We looked at the kanji (picture writing) for these numbers.

In Term 2 we learned about こどものひ Kodomo no hi, Children's Day.
Families with boys hang こいのぼり (koinobori) carp streamers outside to symbolise persistence.
We decorated こいのぼり koinobori to put in our books.

Mother's Day is not celebrated in Japan :-(
But we wanted to make a card to say Happy Mother's Day to all the mums.
Our card says お母さん、いろいろありがとう!Okaasan, iro iro arigatou ! Mum, thanks for everything you do !

April is the season for おはなみ Ohanami in Japan - looking at Cherry Blossoms.
Japanese people often enjoy a picnic under the Cherry Blossoms.
Year 1s decorated the trees in the Green with paper Cherry Blossoms, and Reception - Year 2/3 classes enjoyed a Cherry Blossom Picnic on 'blue tarps' (an old sheet, cut up !).
We decorated a べんと Bento Box and はちまき hachimaki headband with Cherry Blossoms and wore Japanese clothes.
